Born out of a shared interest in automotive design, QUT Motorsport is the Queensland University of Technology’s answer to the challenge of Formula SAE.

Formed in 2003 under the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering, QUT Motorsport remains a student run and operated project, drawing knowledge from both undergraduate and post graduate students from a broad spectrum of faculties and disciplines.

Driven by the enthusiasm to extend their learning and education beyond the classroom, students are annually presented with the challenge to fully design, manufacture and race a small open wheel race vehicle in the Formula SAE competition. Competing annually at the Australasian Formula SAE competition, the team has grown to become involved in other race events, including the Mt Cotton Hill Climb series.

Being a dynamic multidisciplinary project, QUT Motorsport provides practical experience for QUT students to apply theory taught in class and ultimately gain experience and skills in project management, design, budgeting, procurement and manufacturing processes.

With students beaming from discipline areas including, mechanical, electrical, infomechatronics and avionics engineering, to industrial design, business and journalism and film and television, QUT Motorsport continues to grow from strength to strength each year in the pursuit of becoming Australia’s Number One FSAE team.
