2008 Events
Queensland 400 – V8 Supercars Round at Queensland Raceway July 17-20 QUT Motorsport featured in the merchasing and trade stalls alley, at the Queensland leg of the Australian V8 Supercar Championships. Drawing on large crowds and interest in the 2007 vehicle, the four day weekend proved success in generating awareness of the FSAE team amongst fans and automotive industry specialists.
TSXPO & Course and Careers Day, July 2008 The university’s two signature recruitment events for the year, QUT Motorsport featured displays at both events, representing the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering. Initiate Summit, June 2008 To celebrate the end of semester one 2008, QUT Motorsport’s team managers – John Monforte, Daniel Naylor and Elecia Douglas – were fortunate to attend the inaugural QUT Initiate Summit. Held for students involved in community engagement projects and societies, the 4 day summit, proved to be an invaluable learning experience covering workshops in Project Management, managing volunteers, grant and sponsorship writing and personal development.
RACQ Motorfest, June 2008 The 100th annual RACQ Motorfest was held at Eagle Farm Race Course on June 28 – presenting a fantastic opportunity for QUT Motorsport to exhibit the 2007 car. Attracting attention from both young and old, racing enthusiasts and those interested in university study, QUT Motorsport enjoyed participation at the event.
Q-Step, May 2008 In the lead up to semester one exams, QUT Motorsport opened its workshop doors to an array of enthusiastic and inquisitive grade 10 students. Visiting the university for an information day, the students were given a first hand tour of QUT Motorsport’s facilities and a question and answer session with team members.
SPE Launch, May 2008 Society of Petroleum Engineers, launched their QUT Chapter. In a joint event held at the university’s Guild Bar, the evening allowed for networking amongst the engineering students involved in both SPE and Motorsport. The launch was also attended by industry members of SPE from companies such as Santos and Origin Energy.
PB Presentation, May 2008 In the effort to continuously strengthen QUT Motorsport’s sponsorship relationships, team members Elecia Douglas, Daniel Naylor, John Monforte and Kieran Cook, gave a half hour presentation to staff at PB’s Brisbane office in late May. Offering an insight into all operations of QUT Motorsport from the Business perspective, to a complete technical overview of the car, PB staff were impressed by the high caliber of the project.
Campaign Summary, April 2008 QUT Motorsport hosted their annual Campaign Summary, to reflect, revisit and celebrate the 2007 season. In attendance were representatives from the team’s loyal sponsors and university staff – all reveling in the chance to chat openly with QUT Motorsport’s new and seasoned members. The event also marked the opening of the team’s newly renovated workshop.
Brisbane International Motorshow, February 2008 In early 2008, a QUT Motorsport display was featured at the Brisbane International Motorshow, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event presented a fantastic opportunity to advertise both QUT engineering courses as well as exhibiting the QUT Motorsport team to the automotive industry and community.
