Computer Science WIL Internship

Each year, our team holds an internship for QUT students wishing to enhance their business, engineering and software skills through the initial development stages of our electric race car.  It is a great opportunity for students across a range of degrees looking to gain valuable, hands on experience though work in Formula SAE.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The 2021 vehicle will be an iteration of the current design, with key systems being optimised based on the feedback and testing of the current vehicle. This will be across software, mechanical and electrical vehicle systems, with updates to suit. The competition dictates that students must design, manufacture, and engineer all aspects of the vehicle, necessitating the need for more students during the design and optimisation phase.

 

About Us

QUT Motorsport operates as an extra-curricular student project, drawing on knowledge from undergraduate and postgraduate students of varying disciplines. For 2021, the team is planning to develop the third iteration of our 4WD electric vehicle. The Formula SAE competition dictates that students must design, manufacture, and engineer all aspects of the vehicle, necessitating the need for more students during the design and optimisation phase. 

 

The Role

QUT Motorsport is looking for motivated students to design and program components and systems in the vehicle. The role will span 4 weeks beginning on the 18th of January, and is aimed at students that are eager to work on a large scale project with multiple inter-disciplinary teams. Working hours will be 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. If you require some flexibility in working hours, please specify this in your application.

Each role will require personnel with high attention to detail, design skills and an understanding of the importance of documentation. As the team is centred on building an electric vehicle, ideal candidates will be completing either an IT (Computer Science) or IT (Information Systems) degree at QUT.

In the role you can expect to get hands on experience designing complex software solutions  and understanding the key aspects needed to program an electric vehicle. There will be a heavy emphasis on documentation, testing and user-oriented design.
